One L
Formed in late 2006, one L performs Afro-Cuban inspired original Salsa-Soul music. Armed with an authentic percussion section, a fiery horn section, and a distinct approach to Electric Guitar, one L has been composing and performing original music in Athens for a wide audience.
Performing at premier venues such as The Melting Point, Farm 255, WUGA “It’s Friday,” and The Globe, one L seeks to spice up the Athens music scene with music heavily inspired by the rhythms and sounds of Cuba. Alumni of one L include Kevin Hyde (Grogus, Derek Trucks Band), Rob McMaken (Dromedary, Jonathan Byrd), Jason Cheek (Gabriel Kelley and The Reins), and Melvin Mathurin (JazzEnigma) to name a few. Since the Half Dozen Brass Band’s inception last year, one L and Half Dozen Brass Band have shared not only the stage, but members as well.
Philip Kohnen, the composer and Bandleader for one L, studied percussion and compostion with Roberto Rodriguez (drummer for Miami Sound Machine, Paul Simon) in 2005 in New York City.
Currently, one L is preparing to record an album for release next year, and will be performing regularly around Athens.
One L will perform 1:10 p.m. Saturday on the outdoor stage.
