Joel Atwill
In late 2007, Joel Atwill accidentally became a stand-up comedian. Prior to late ‘07, he had never wanted to become a stand-up comedian. In fact, he had never even thought about becoming a stand-up comedian.
After graduating from the University of Georgia in 2004, Joel Atwill moved to California and has been living a somewhat nomadic life since then.
In November of 2007, Joel Atwill went on tour with a band from Athens, Georgia – The Whigs – not knowing what would come of it. Stand-up comedy is what came of it. On November 8, 2007, in Eugene, Oregon, he tried stand-up for the first time ever for the sole purpose of filling the void during changeover at a concert. After that U.S. tour, he returned to Atlanta wanting to pursue stand-up comedy since he somehow became addicted to its challenge.
He likes to incorporate different things into his performances. For example, sometimes he writes on a white dry-erase board. Sometimes he uses large maps on stage. Sometimes he plays the drums. Sometimes he likes to amplify his thoughts in a part of his show called “Amplified Thoughts.” Sometimes he uses an iPod to play music to assist his music-related jokes. Sometimes he does other things. One time he ate a banana on stage in Atlanta.
