Winner of “Best Jazz” in the 2009 Flagpole Music Awards, Half Dozen Brass Band performs a unique blend of jazz, hip-hop, funk and Dixieland.
This band contains some of Athens’ most in-demand horn players. Members include Charles Arnold (trumpet), Jamie Pannell (trombone), Joe Wytanis (tenor sax), Gnarly G (baritone saxophone), Joshua Cutchin (tuba) and Brent Hedrick (percussion).
Influences include brass bands such as Dirty Dozen and Youngblood. The Flagpole Magazine calls them, “a stunning, versatile ensemble that swaggers through funky jazz and sleazy New Orleans soul with equal precision.”
The Half Dozen Brass Band will perform 5:50 p.m. Saturday on the outdoor stage and with Lefty Hathaway 3:30 p.m. Sunday on the outdoor stage.
